Frequently Asked Questions

How can I schedule a Free 20 Minute Discovery Call?

You can schedule a Free 20 Minute Discovery Call by clicking here. During this call, you will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Berkeley and ask any questions you have about working with her. There is no medical advice given at this time, but the goal is to provide you with information about the next steps of working together.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes! It is possible to schedule a virtual follow-up appointment with Dr. Berkeley. All New Patient Appointments take place in the office. For virtual follow-up appointments, you must be located in either the District of Columbia or Maryland at the time of your appointment.

What is the order of appointments that I should expect?

After the Free 20 Minute Discovery Call, the appointments are as follows: New Patient Appointment, Personalized Strategy Session, Follow-Up Support Sessions (minimum 4 total), and Maintenance Support Sessions.

How long is each appointment?

All appointments are 50 minutes in length, except for the Free Discovery Call which is 20 minutes.

What should I bring to my New Patient Appointment?

Bring all current medications and supplements.

Bring a photo ID with you to your appointment (or upload it into your portal before your appointment).

Make sure that you have completed your online intake form and consent forms at least one week before your appointment.

How do I fill out the Intake and Consent Forms?

The Intake Form and Consent Forms are easy to fill out online. They must be submitted at least one week before your New Patient Appointment in order to confirm and hold your appointment. If you need help filling out these forms, please let us know.

What is the New Patient Appointment?

This is when we get you established as a patient, make sure that we understand your health goals, and order comprehensive functional medicine testing to individualize your care.

What is the Personalized Strategy Session?

In this session, we review the lab results in detail so that you have a full understanding of what your results mean. You will then get started on a personalized wellness plan to holistically address your health concerns.

What are the Follow-Up Support Sessions?

These sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart and they are important for monitoring your health and making adjustments, as needed, to your personalized plan and to support you as you work towards your health goals. We will maintain your personalized plan, retest lab work, run new tests (if needed), and make sure your questions are answered along the way.

What are the Maintenance Support Sessions?

After your follow-up support sessions (minimum 4), we will move into maintenance care. This is important to support and maintain your progress. The length between sessions is based on your personalized needs after the follow-up sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require full 2 business days notice for any changes to appointment times or to cancel an appointment. For example, to reschedule or cancel an appointment scheduled for Tuesday at 10am, you would need to contact our office before 10am on the previous Friday.

How can you help me with my health goals?

We offer a unique approach specializing in naturopathic and functional medicine for women. Patients choose to work with us because of our individualized approach to healthcare, which is both comprehensive and holistic. It is our goal to empower you with the tools and education you need to improve your health and create a foundation of wellness. You will be provided with a personalized wellness plan, which is based on comprehensive functional medicine lab testing to help you meet your health goals.

What is the time commitment I need to make?

Your care requires dedication and an investment of time in order to get the best results that you deserve. We need time to work together to make sure that we are getting lab work done, retesting if needed, monitoring how you are doing, tracking progress, and making sure that we are supporting you as much as we can to help you achieve your health goals.

Can I use lab work from another healthcare provider?

Most of the time, lab work from other providers does not provide all the information that we need in order to provide you with a personalized wellness plan to help you meet your health goals. It is important that you get the recommended lab work done. This is so that we can understand your health from a different perspective, take a different approach, and then make decisions about the best steps going forward. We will walk you through every step of the way so that the process is simple and easy to follow.

Do you take insurance?

We would love to accept insurance; however, most insurance plans do not fully cover the wellness and preventative services that are provided by our office.

Insurance coverage generally focuses on a conventional model of healthcare and does not always support the unique approach that our practice values.

We are committed to the naturopathic and functional medicine model, which means that there is considerable time and expertise that is incorporated into your care. It is not possible to be a participating provider in the insurance networks and also provide the time-intensive, high-quality natural healthcare that we do.

Are there other options for working with Dr. Berkeley?

Yes! We will be offering a program later this year that is a self-paced course and teaches you about what Dr. Berkeley has seen as the most effective techniques for addressing women’s health. This course will cover hormones, gut health, thyroid, interpreting lab work and detoxing. If you are interested, please let us know! We can keep your email on file to share program details when it becomes available.

When choosing a naturopathic doctor, is there anything I should ask?

Here are some questions to consider when choosing a naturopathic doctor:

- Did you graduate from an accredited, four-year, in-residence naturopathic medical school that offers a doctoral-level program, leading to a Doctor of Naturopathy (ND) degree?

- Did you pass naturopathic licensing examinations administered by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners?

- Are you Board-Certified? If so, which of these designations do you have: FABNE, FABNO, FABNP, DHANP?

- Are you licensed to practice naturopathic medicine? If so, what states are you licensed in?

- Can you order comprehensive blood work and other specialty functional medicine lab panels?

- Have you received additional training for interpreting a full thyroid panel?

- Do you provide instructions on when to get thyroid testing done?

- Are you also a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner?

Can you tell me more about Dr. Berkeley?

Dr. Berkeley is Board-Certified in Naturopathic Endocrinology and is a Fellow to the American Board of Naturopathic Endocrinology (FABNE). She is also a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner with the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFMCP) and a Certified Corporate Wellness Consultant. She is licensed by the District of Columbia Board of Medicine and the Maryland Board of Physicians.

She is the former President, and current Vice President, of the District of Columbia Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She is also a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Endocrinology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Institute for Functional Medicine.

Dr. Berkeley is passionate about serving her community because she spent years searching for answers for her own health. When using a naturopathic and functional medicine approach, she saw so much improvement with her own health that she decided to return to school for another 6 years to start a career in medicine, even though she already had a Master’s degree in another field.

She spent nearly a decade overseas observing natural medicine in Europe, Asia and India. Dr. Berkeley blends her overseas experience into her private practice and speaking engagements. She has presented at various organizations, including the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, the U.S. Department of Justice, the International Monetary Fund, and Georgetown University.

In her spare time, Dr. Berkeley enjoys spending time outdoors walking her dog, cooking healthy food, and spending time with her family.
